Robert Gleeson, owner of Cape May Contracting, has resided in Cape May all his life. Robert realized his true passion for construction and renovation working as a teen in his fathers contracting business. In 2013, after many years of learning the craft, Robert opened his own outfit. He started small and worked his way up to larger projects. As his small business grew, he began to hire talented people to the team. Mr. Gleeson is an excellent builder and true craftsman. With a keen knowledge in older building construction, and structure, he is experienced in construciton ranging to the modern era to the late 1700s. Beyond his building skills, Mr. Gleeson has made many connections in his career with many other talented tradesmen, and architects, and engineering professionals.
Steve Steger, a graduate of Monmouth University and Vice President of Steger Beach Service Inc., came on board to manage the business operations of the contracting company back in late 2013. In addition to running his families business which has been in operation since 1933, he balances his schedule to manage and aid in the growth of Cape May Contracting year round. Steve has been a dedicated member of the administrative staff and assists with a wide range of duties of the business operations including financial management, project accounting, office management, marketing, and business development. In addition to working for both business, Mr. Steger is a dedicated member of the local community. He serves on the Board of Trustees of the Mid-Atlantic Center of the Arts, Board of Directors for the Cape May Chamber of Commerce, and lastly as a board member on the Lower Cape May Regional Education Foundation.
Sales and estimating manager
Taylor Smith, another talented local whose family has also lived here for decades, with many family members in political factions of the Cape May. Area. In 2013 Taylor joined the team and offered his skills as a knowledgeable wood-worker and tradesman. After working in the field as a carpenter for a number of years Taylor joined the team to head the estimating and sales division on the company. With an expert knowledge in building material, cabinetry, flooring, and fine finishes. He can match your dream product to your budget. Mr. Smith also has a good relationship with many other trades in the area to fine tilers, carpenters, to some of the best painters and the area. He has worked with a wide range of trades over the years and knows the ins and outs to any construction project. Mr. Smith is also a member of the Cape Island Masonic Lodge.
Lead Carpenter / Project Manager
Mike Altieri, a childhood friend of Robert’s, came on board to as the first employee back in early 2013. When Bob was starting out Mr. Altieri was right at his side working on projects. Since then he has become a excellent carpenter, and a master of the trade. Mr. Altieri is the tip of the spear in our construction operations and will work a project until its end. He is also a good project manager and communicates well the client as to where things stand with the project and the next steps forward. With a fundamental understanding of building construction, he understands every detail and aspect of the job. With Mr. Altieri leading you project your in good hands. Mike is also a part-time wrestling coach for the Lower Cape May School district.
John Sherba came on board in 2015 as a carpenter. Mr. Sherba has known Bob since they were kids when the worked on their father’s constriction sites, his father worked as a mason for many years. As he worked as a carpenter, he developed his skills and now is one of our best carpenters on staff. Mr. Sherba is skilled in many fields including but not limited to, finish trim work, framing, structural work, and is a skilled tile. He is a true craftsman in every sense of the word and a dedicated company man. In his spare time John is an avid outdoorsman, and enjoys hunting in the off season.
Lead Carpenter / Project Manager
Andrew Joyce joined our ranks right after the new year in 2016. Since, he has been an integral member of our field staff. Prior to employment Andrew enlisted in the U.S. Marine Crops in 2002. In 2004 he deployed to Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. In 2005 he deployed a second time to Iraq and participated in the Fallujah conflict. Andrew was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps and enrolled in Flagler College in Florida and earned his BA. After college his worked a few jobs and found himself in the building business in Ventnor City working for a contractor. Mr. Joyce’s carpentry skills have enhanced over time, not only on carpentry and framing, but in project management. Andrew’s military bearing has allowed him to have a very disciplined approach to project management. Andrew is a proud member of the Cape May Yacht Club, and avid outdoorsman.
